Negros Island was originally called “Buglas”, an old native word that is thought to mean “cut-off.” It is believed that Negros was once part of a greater mass of land but was cut off either by what geologists all a continental drift or by rising waters during the so-called glacial age. Among its earliest inhabitants were dark-skinned natives belonging to the Negrito ethnic group with their unique culture. Thus, the Spaniards called the land “Negros” after the black natives whom they saw when they first came to the island in April 1565.

Negros Oriental is located in the eastern side of Negros Island, the fourth largest island in the Philippines.  Mount Kanlaon is one of the mountain ranges found in the heart of Negros Island. One of the country’s 13 most active volcanoes, Kanlaon is the highest peak in Central Philippines.

Negrense are regarded as affectionate, generous, fun loving people who enjoy the finer things in life. The province's capital is Dumaguete, a quaint, lively, urban city with a university and over 4000 expats. There is a harbour promenade with plenty of restaurants, bars and fast food restaurants.

There are plenty of activities in the area including world-class diving at Apo Island, beautiful hiking through the jungle to waterfalls, caves to explore and so much more. With good buses and easy access by road, guests can go off and explore activities.
